Before the match

After the cup meeting vs Oleksandriya, Shakhtar underwent some reshuffling. In the starting line-up, Yaroslav Rakits’kyy and Ivan Ordets made up the pairing of central defenders, with Dentinho and Taras Stepanenko playing in the holding area, with Wellington Nem and Bernard at the flanks and Oleksandr Gladkyy operating up field.

First half

The hosts were active in the opening stages, playing a set piece, with the initiative intercepted by Shakhtar shortly afterwards. On 10 minutes, Bernard earned a free kick some 23 metres away from goal, sending it home just over the wall – 0-1. Odessans defended in numbers and played it really rough. At times, the Pitmen succeeded at orchestrating all-out one-touch attacking moves, just like in the situation involving an Ismaily attempt – with the host goalkeeper parrying it away and inexplicably pulling out a Nem close ranger from the upper corner shortly afterwards.

After 25 minutes, Chornomorets had a clear-cut scoring chance, but Korkishko fired it over the crossbar. A Tatarkov long-ranger was also dangerous. The Pitmen continued to step it up, and Darijo Srna fired a powerful volley  after playing a corner, with the Odesa goalkeeper fisting it away.

Second half

At half-time, Shakhtar made a substitution, with Taison appearing instead of Viktor Kovalenko. Odesa boosted it early in the second half, with the Pitmen launching their dangerous attacks in response. On 56 minutes, Kalytvyntsev took a right-hand free kicks: after being delivered into the penalty area, the ball bounced off the ground to find the back of the net – 1-1. After levelling it, the hosts dropped back, giving the Pitmen more space. On 61 minutes, Mircea Lucescu has used all of his substitutions, fielding Eduardo and Marlos. Massive attacks by the Pitmen turned into scoring chances only in the closing stages of the game. The host team keeper came to the rescue following a long-range strike by Rakits’kyy and didn’t allowMarlos to score after his slaloming run.

In injury time, the Odesa attack nearly resulted in a goal, when Andriy Pyatovturned a Kabaev effort into the post. And in the reverse attacking move, Ordets could have snatched a win, but after that Stepanenko sent it right into the hands of the keeper from close range. Chornomorets were clinging onto the scoreline, and a straight red card awarded to Danchenko is a proof. The 1-1 draw.
