On Saturday, in the framework of the U21 Ukrainian League Matchday 24, the Pitmen are to take on Dynamo Kyiv. We bring you the match announcement

Opponents

The U21 teams of Shakhtar and Dynamo will play the central game of the season, which defines who claims the top spot. Three rounds away from the league season end, the opponents go neck and neck, scoring 57 points each. Kyiv boast a better goal difference, and in the seven matches of the spring part of the season, the charges of Vicente Gomez scored 21 goals, claiming six wins. However, a week ago, the home advantage over Vorskla was a modest 2-1, with Dynamo previously claiming three big wins in a row. We want to note that in the last matches of the Kyiv U21 team continuously feature the players with considerable experience of playing in the Premier League, in particular Yevhen Makarenko, Serhiy Myakushko and Artem Besedin. The team’s top scorer is a 20-year-old striker Roman Yaremchuk (17 goals in 20 games).

The team of Miguel Cardoso lost points in the two closing games of the spring part of the season, drawing with Dnipro and Metalist, which allowed Dynamo to catch up with the Pitmen in the table. In the first round match, Kyiv beat Shakhtar 2-0 at their base in Chapayivka. At the end of each half, Myakushko and Yaremchuk got their names on the scoresheet. In the past league season, the rivals exchanged come-from-behind away wins. The Pitmen, losing 0-2 after the first half in Kyiv, managed to reverse the course of the game in their favour (3-2), with Kyiv claiming a similar win in Poltava (2-1). Interestingly, before the meeting in the first half of the season, Shakhtar and Dynamo reserves had the same balance of wins and defeats in their encounters – seven each.

Interesting facts

Andriy Boryachuk repeated the club achievement of Serhiy Shevchuk, who in the 2006/07 youth championship scored 20 goals for Shakhtar (in 29 matches). In the same season, Dynamo player Oleksandr Aliyev set the all-time scoring record in the history of Dynamo – 21 goals.

On Shakhtar pitch, the opponents scored considerably less goals (29) than in Kyiv (51) in the head-to-head meetings.

Dynamo reserve team suffered both of their away defeats of the season at the hands of Chornomorets and Dnipro. In four meetings against the above teams, the Pitmen claimed three victories, drawing once.

In the current league season, the reserve sides of Shakhtar and Dynamo took nine spot kicks. The Pitmen failed to convert three of them, with Kyiv wasting just one.

Anatoliy Abdula has been entrusted with refereeing the game, he officiated the meeting between the main teams at the NSC Olympiyskyi and registered a major 3-0 win in favour of Shakhtar.
