Palkin: Shakhtar’s objective is reaching Europa League final

The CEO of FC Shakhtar Donetsk Sergei Palkin commented on the Europa League play-off round draw results for Futbol 1 channel
- Europa League is a slightly different tournament. We dreamed of playing in the Champions League. Since it’s happened this way, our only salvation and justification to the fans will be just reaching the competition’s final. As for the opponent, it’s quite a young club, which was founded in 1990. Last season, they finished fourth in the Turkish league. The young, ambitious club, who in no case should be underestimated. What happened to us in the game against Young Boys is just the case, and we have what we have now.
- In 2009, after being knocked off the qualifying round by Timisoara, Shakhtar got Sivasspor, with no issues arising back then. What’s gonna happen now?
- We have to repeat that way. We’ve got no other option in order to justify ourselves to our fans.
- Speaking about the Pitmen’s morale, have the team recovered from the painful fiasco in the encounter with Young Boys?
- Of course, morale wise, everyone fins it very tough. At the team’s post-match morning training session, it was evident looking at the faces that they were all very upset. Morale wise, that’s very difficult, but we need to get out of this situation. Our another chance is proving ourselves in the Europa League. And what does proving mean? It means to reach the final. If we fail to do so, we cannot have any excuses at all.
