Before the match
In the match against Dnipro, Paulo Fonseca rotated the line-up. In defence, Oleksandr Kucher was replaced by Ivan Ordets, Maksym Malyshev appeared in the holding area instead of Taras Stepanenko, Dentinho was fielded on the left wing instead of Taison and the forward's spot was given to Eduardo, and not Facundo Ferreyra.
The start of the game saw positional struggle, with the ball staying mostly in midfield. On 12 minutes Ismaily livened up the game having easily taken care of the opponents but his attempt was deflected by Dnipro defenders to a corner. And the subdequent long pass by Yaroslav Rakitskyy to Darijo Srna ended in a goal. The Pitmen captain's shot was corrected by Ivan Ordets, who scored his first goal for Shakhtar - 1-0. A minute later, another corner resulted in a Shakhtar success. This time, a high cross from Marlos found Dentinho, who headed the ball right into the corner. The Orange-and-Blacks continued dominating the field, and had more than one chance to extend the lead before half-time. Ismaily's joining the attacks as well as set play made the game more threatening. Thus, Viktor Kovalenko and Maksym Malyshev had a chance to distinguish themselves after passes by Marlos and Srna.
After the half-time break, the game pattern has somewhat changes. Shakhtar maintained their territorial advantage, but now Dnipro were moving out forward more often, exposing the rear, and allowing the Paulo Fonseca's squad to rush into the free zones. On 59 minutes Dentinho had another chance to score, but his powerful shot from the penalty box border was, with great difficulty, parried by Denys Shelikhov. Soon, the away team had a scoring chance, but Fred blocked an attempt by Artem Dovbik. In the 66th minute Wellington Nem substituted Kovalenko, and took Dentinho's, who shifted to the left flank. Almost immediately the Orange-and-Blacks scored their third goal: Marlos beautifully curled the ball into the corner of the goal from 23 metres - 3-0. Subsequently, the game became calmer, and Paulo Fonseca fielded Facundo Ferreyra and Taras Stepanenko, substituting Dentinho and Eduardo. Fred had an opportunity at the end of the match, but Dnipro's goalkeeper once again saved the ball. But in the 90th minute, he was powerless when Ferreyrareceived Darijo Srna's high flanking cross and sent the ball into the corner of the net with a header. 4-0 - overwhelming win by Shakhtar.
The Pitmen's next match will take place on August 25. The Donetsk team will receive Istanbul Basaksehir on the Arena Lviv in the return leg of the Europa League play-off round.
