The end of the calendar year saw the Pitmen uplifted emotionally and continuing the winning streak they had kicked off back in October. In three games they scored ten goals, with 22 players contributing to the team's success just like in the previous month
The major contender for the Player of the Month title is Taison. The Brazilian appeared in every game and scored three goals. The Donetsk side’s number 28 led his teammates for the game vs Braga with the captain's armband on, and the match against Dynamo Kyiv featured the attacking midfielder’s 150th appearance for Shakhtar.
One of Taison’s major competitors is Sergii Kryvtsov who managed to grab a brace. The 25-year-old defender is one of the heroes of the Pitmen’s away match vs the Portuguese. Both of them, by the way, based on their group stage closing game performance, were included in the Europa League team of the week, with two goals against Braga being his first ones in European competitions.
Besides Taison, his four compatriots took part in every game in December: Fred, Marlos, Bernard and Dentinho. Each of them showed his best side. Fred was reliable in the holding area, operating equally well both defensively and offensively. He netted a stunner against Dynamo, being also recognised by the Premier League as the best player in the 18th round.
