Shakhtar legend and one of the most experienced players Vyacheslav Shevchuk has finished his playing career at the Donetsk club after a spell exceeding 12 years

The Lutsk football academy graduate joined Shakhtar in the year 2000. In that season, the Pitmen and Vyacheslav Shevchuk made their Champions League debut, playing in the same group with Rome-based Lazio, London-based Arsenal and Sparta Praha.

Later, Vyacheslav played for other clubs for a few years, returning to Shakhtar and raising the Ukrainian Super Cup in 2005. The following season, the defender largely contributed to the Pitmen’s domestic success and won the league title.

In the summer of 2014, Shevchuk reached the grandmaster milestone of 200 appearances for Shakhtar. Being the most experienced Shakhtar player, Vyacheslav always played reliably at left back, also being a role model for his younger teammates. He was recognized as the best player in top European competitions: the defender was included in the Team of the Week after his Champions League appearances vs Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

At age 37, Vyacheslav set a record as the oldest captain in the history of Ukraine national team and took part in EURO 2016 in France. All in all, he made 239 apps netting 4 goals and winning 20 trophies.

FC Shakhtar thanks Vyacheslav for the years he spent with the team, for his professionalism, perseverance and dedication. We wish him the best of luck!
