Matviienko: We felt more confident vs Austria

Ukraine U21 team claimed the third place in the annual Valeriy Lobanovsky memorial

Shakhtar was represented in the national team by defenders Mykola Matviienko and Taras Kacharaba,and forwards Denys ArendarukOleksandr Zubkov and Andriy Boriachuk.

In the first semi-final, the Yellow-Blues lost to Israel in a penalty shootout – 1-1 (4-5 on penalties). And in the third place decider, the charges of Oleksandr Golovko locked horns with Austria. The normal time ended 1-1, with the Ukrainians proving stronger in the penalty shootout – 5-3.

- It’s a pity we did not manage to beat Israel, lacking some football luck in that match. But in the return leg, we were more lucky, - Shakhtar defender Mykola Matviienko shared his experience. - In the penalty shootout against Austria, they felt more confident and decided the meeting in their favour. In general, I think that we played well in the competition, unfortunately, failing to win. I would like to thank the fans who came to the stadium, we felt their support. I want to thank them for that.

Israel national team celebrated their XIII International Valeriy Lobanovsky memorial triumph, managing to beat Serbia 3-2 in a tense final.
