Shakhtar at Euro: Srna and Croatia claimed a win

On June 12, Croatia national team played their first European Championship game. The Blazers’ opponents were Turkey national team

Shakhtar defender Darijo Srna led his team onto the pitch having the captain's armband on. He was one of the most active players, taking part in numerous attacking moves and being the main performer for set pieces. As early as on 2 minutes, Darijo made a great pass to Perisic near the goal line, but an attempt by the Croatian midfielder lacked accuracy. On 17 minutes, after the captain’s pass, the Turkish defenders blocked a Mandzukic header. In general, in the first half, the Croats were more dangerous, converting their advantage into a goal on 41 minutes, with Modric sending his smasher home from some 23 mentres.

On 52 minutes, the Blazers were close to extending the lead, with a free kick by Shakhtar captain shattering the crossbar. A few minutes later, Darijo tried to finish it off after a save by the Turkish goalkeeper, only to see his shot going just wide. Overall, the team of Darijo Srna dominated it heavily, ultimately enjoying just a narrow 1-0 win.
