The captain of Ukraine national team reflects on the match against Germany

- Vyacheslav, you lost to the world cup winners. How can you evaluate the outcome?
- Just the first game. We were preparing to at least cling to the draw, we wanted to produce a better result. But we were playing against the world cup winners. Of course, this is not an excuse, we had to produce a better performance. In the first half, we had chances to score. After the break, we got a little bit tired, and at the end of the game, at 0-1, we started taking risks and were caught on a counter. Basically, there isn’t much difference between 0-1 and 0-2... We wanted to at least cling to a draw.

- On several occasions in the first half, it seemed that the ball already found the back of the net. An attacking move was underway, when a player stopped it on the goal-line. Why didn’t you manage to score?
- Right, in the first half we created a great many chances, alongside numerous set pieces. Their goalkeeper played very well. Maybe we did not have enough luck, underperforming on some occasions. Basically, our defensive performance was more or less reliable, we did not allow them to create many chances.
