Shakhtar assistant coach speaks out on his work in the Donetsk team
- Nuno, what are your responsibilities on Paulo Fonseca's coaching staff?
- I specialise in tactical issues, primarily offensively, and, to some extent, defensively. I help Paulo a lot. I am always at the sidelines trying to convey the head coach's ideas to the players. We are all working together as one big team.
- You've already had a few training sessions. What are your impressions from working with Shakhtar players? Do they understand your demands?
- I have nothing but good impressions. We saw right away that the players want to understand what we are trying to teach them. We are trying to make sure they understand our ideas, opinions, and accept them.
- What is the philosophy of your coaching staff, its basic principles? What is your vision of a perfect team?
- Our team needs to control the game and dominate possession throughout the game. Attacking begins with defending, and we need to spend more time in attacks than in defence. Those things are closely interrelated. On the whole, we want to see an attacking team, who will prevail in ball possession.
- Shakhtar is a completely new page in your career, in your life. What was your reaction to this invitation and did you have any reservations?
- It is a huge and crucial challenge for us. We were certainly happy to receive such an offer. And we are really looking forward to doing something new. I believe that we will live up to the club's expectations. And I think we can achieve new heights with Shakhtar.

- Are you watching European Championship games involving Shakhtar internationals?
- Yes, we have seen the matches of Ukraine and Croatia. Darijo Srna, as usual, was in top form throughout the whole game. He is one of those footballers who always play well. He has a great authority in his national team, and this is definitely good for our team. Those playing for Ukraine national team also produced a great performance. And I believe they will play even better in the future.
