On June 25, Croatia national team played Portugal in the Euro 2016 Round of 16. Darijo Srna appeared from the off as the team captain

The first half ended with no goals scored. The Croats dominated possession though. The teams held each other and the audience in suspense, fought in all areas of the field, but still did without scoring chances. Srna created the Blazers’ attacksing moves, breaking away down the wing, with Cristiano Ronaldo playing most frequently defensively.

The Blazers had one of the few chances to excel on 62 minutes, when Vida’s header was slightly inaccurate following Darijo’s pass. In other regards, the teams tried to play as safe as possible without taking any risks, with the game going into extra time as a result.

In extra time, the Croats stepped it up and tried to put the squeeze on the opponents. After Perisic’s attempt, the Portuguese goalkeeper made a save. As is often the case, contrary to logic, it was the latter who scored: on 117 minutes, Quaresma finished it off after a Subasic save to make it 0-1.

The Croats had very little time to equalise. However, they had another great chance, but Vida’s attempt just went wide. The charges of Ante Cacic are out of the competition.
