Donetsk team players reflect on the friendly game against Meppen
Andriy Totovytskyi, Shakhtar forward:
- We were challenged by a good team. I like the opponents. Especially in the first half, it was evident that the Germans were playing in a compact way. Meppen are much stronger than the team we played against in the previous game. We have been playing pretty well with the teammates in training, we also understand the requirements of the head coach. My brace? In any matches, it’s nice to score goals - you feel confident and grow! Basically, the training camp has kicked off just recently, and we are trying to give our all in every game at the momemt. We need to improve from match to match.

- From the opening minutes, it became clear that the opponents’ level is higher than in the previous friendly game. Meppen tried to combine, attack and didn’t fear making transitions from defence to attack. So that was interesting. We didn’t get the game under control right away and were the first to concede a goal. Maybe that’s due to the previous workloads. Later, the encounter followed our scenario: we charged forward more and controlled the game. It only remained to rip open the opponents’ defence and score, and we succeeded. In the second half, there were no dangerous situations near our goal at all. From day to day, we are getting closer to our top form, increasingly better understanding the requirements of the coaching staff.

I am very happy to have put on Shakhtar jersey again. During the friendly games, we should not pay any attention to the opponents. We need to properly operate on the pitch ourselves, fulfil the game plan of the coach and see the errors that we can correct in order to prevent them in official matches. It’s my first time being part of this formation. I think we all will gradually get used to it.
