On June 29, Shakhtar will play another friendly game at the training camp in the Netherlands. The Orange-Black team’s opponents are KAA Gent, Belgium

The club was founded in 1864 (the football team was formed in 1900). The team’s nickname is De Buffalos. Gent received it after the city had been visited by the original Buffalo Bill and his Wild West circus featuring cowboys and Indians. Hence, the club crest: the facial profile of the leader of one of the tribes.

Gent won three Belgian Cup titles (in 1964, 1984 and 2010). The club has achieved major success just recently. In the 2014/15 season, for the first time in their history Genk won the domestic title and made it directly to the Champions League group stage. Being in the same group with Zenit, Valencia and Lyon, the Belgians claimed the second spot and advanced to the knockout stage, where in the Last 16, they lost both legs to Wolfsburg, Germany with an aggregate score of 2-4. At the same time, in last year’s domestic league, Gent finished third, currently preparing for the Europa League qualifying round.

The team is coached by a 52-year-old Belgian Hein Vanhaezebrouck, who has had his deal extended until 2018. Gent play their home games at the Ghelamco Arena, whose seating capacity is 20,000.

Shakhtar’s meeting with Gent kicks off at 18:00 Kyiv time. Follow the online broadcasts and news updates on shakhtar.com.
