Before the match

Shakhtar have two official games left on their calendar, both against Zorya Luhansk. Sunday's match will take place within the league’s closing round. It will not decide anything in terms of the teams’ standings (Donetsk sit in the second spot, Luhansk in the fourth), but it is still important, just like any other game, for the sides’ status. We should also point out that neither for Shakhtar, nor for Zorya, in contrast to the other teams, the season is not finishing this weekend, as there is still a decisive Cup ginal tie ahead.

The suspended Oleksandr Kucher will not take part in Sunday's meeting.

Opponents

On the eve of the game, the official website of Zorya reported that the players loaned out by Shakhtar Shevchenko, Fursov, Hrechyshkin, Tankovskyi, Totovytskyi, Karavayev, Petryak, Budkovskyy and Bezborod'ko were allowed to take part in the round 26 game. Luhansk will approach the game with the optimum line-up since they have no suspended players.

After the Cup semi-final success against Dnipro, the charges of Yuriy Vernydub have been preparing for the match in a good mood. In five most recent league games, Zorya claimed only one victory. Undoubtedly, the players themselves evaluated the results as unsatisfactory, so they will certainly be motivated to finish the league season on a positive note.

We want to note that Shakhtar will receive Zorya in Zaporizhya, where Luhansk have been playing their home games this season.

Previous league meeting

In October 2015, the teams also met in Zaporizhya. Back then, Zorya were the nominal hosts. Shakhtar claimed a major 7-1 win. In the first half, Fred put his name on the scoresheet, with Stepanenko and Teixeira also scoring goals after the break. Shortly after that, Kamenyuka pulled one back from the spot, but then Alex and Taras, as well as Eduardo, grabbed a brace each and set the final result of the match.

Interesting facts

Taras Stepanenko may make his 100th appearance for the Pitmen in the league.

Shakhter may claim their 100th major league victory with Mircea Lucescu at the helm.

In the current season, Shakhtar have scored 125 goals (the record that may be updated in the remaining two games).
