Pitmen reflect on winning the 2015/16 Ukrainian Cup
- Zorya always showcase great football, with this match being no exception. But I think we won deservedly, the lads did everything they could to raise this Cup. This season, in the final, two teams from the Donbas competed for the trophy – I feel it very well that we have not played at home for two years now. Everyone finds it tough, but we’ve got to get used to it, in this situation everything depends not on us. I look sad? No, I’m fine, really. Mister said goodbye to us and wished us lots of good things. Of course, this is a difficult moment, because it is impossible to put into words how much this coach has done for the team. Mircea Lucescu leaving Shakhtar is a big shock for everyone, and for me personally.
Wellington Nem, Shakhtar midfielder:
- If I'm not mistaken, when I joined the team, we won the Ukrainian Cup. But I did not take part in that game due to injury. And this time I’ve succeeded at winning the trophy! My congratulations to absolutely everyone, thank you very much for your dedication. Now we can take some rest. Today’s match is similar to our recent league game. But in the previous meeting, we somewhat lacked concentration, we did not play very well, also making some forced substitutions. And this time, we’ve proved ourselves at the top level. But I want to point out that the match was difficult, especially in the first half. Zorya tried their best to charge forward, while we tried to take advantage of our own chances. As a result, towards the end of the half our team managed to score, it gave us confidence. We thanked Mister for the 12 years he spent with Shakhtar, as well as for his every trophy and victory. We wish him sound health and to remain as serious and purposeful as he currently is. He's one of those coaches, with the arrival of which the club starts claiming wins only!
- There was a very touching moment in the dressing room just recently, it was hard for us to hold back tears. Mircea Lucescu is a big man. He did a lot for the Pitmen. It’s a pity to see him leave, we all will be missing him very much. Mister said that he would follow us so that we don’t get complacent, that he will be concerned over us in the future. He instructed me to continue working in the same vein, and then everything will be fine. As for the match, I believe that both sides have shown good football, it was a real final. I can say that Zorya have played even better than they did in Zaporizhya. Luhansk really wanted to win, but they just lacked something. It definitely was not easy for us to attain the triumph, but we really wanted to please Mister and thank him with winning the Cup. Now we have international duty ahead. I want to help my team to achieve a positive result in the European Championships, so I will do my best.
