Shakhtar’s new head coach speaks of his appointment
- Mr. Fonseca, first of all, accept our congratulations. What does this position mean to you?
- Thank you very much for congratulating me. I am very happy and proud to be able to represent the club of Shakhtar. I think that taking into consideration the entire club structure, together we will be able to do a great job. I am fully ready for that, really looking forward to proceed to my duties.
- What results of Shakhtar will you set as the goal?
- They are completely consistent with Shakhtar’s objectives. It's no secret to anyone that the team want to become the champions of Ukraine again. And, of course, we want to carry out an excellent European club cup campaign. We are preparing for that and will give our all to do the job well.
- The team will gather together on June 13. What are your immediate plans?
- We will all get together and, of course, get acquainted with each other. I will introduce myself to all the players, I want personally meet each of them and talk to them. Then we will have a very serious talk about our goals, about what we want to achieve this season, what we are going to do. I think this is very important to get united from the very start.
- Shakhtar cannot currently play at the Donbass Arena...
- Yes, I know that it’s impossible at the moment. But I believe that in the future we will be able to play at that beautiful stadium.
- What would you like to say to Shakhtar fans?
- First of all, I am very happy to become a part of this club Shakhtar. Working for this club is a huge privilege for any coach. I want to tell the fans that we will continue all the work that was carried out for many years at Shakhtar. We are very ambitious, and we will turn all our ambitions into spectacular and quality football.
