Before the match

The Pitmen, sitting in the 5th spot in the table (13 games, 23 points), received the league leaders Dynamo (12, 31). Serhii Popov did not make any changes in the line-up who had won the last two games against Olimpik (3-2) and Stal (2-0). At the same time, the injured Andrii Zaporoschenko and Murad Khachaev who went on international duty, could not play for the national team.

First half

Less than two minutes after the starting whistle, Kyiv took the lead: Shaparenko hit the bottom corner after receiving the ball in the box. Such a beginning discouraged the Pitmen and they managed to regain control of the game only midway through the half. Gradually, having taken the midfield, Shakhtar players tried to rip open the opponents’ defence through long balls and runs down the wing, but Dynamo defenders coped with the threat. And on 35 minutes, the visitors doubled the lead: Shaparenko got himself on the scoresheet again after firing a right-hand cross home. Donetsk could also score one before the break. Yurii Mate was getting on the end of a corner by the far post only to see his attempt being stopped by the keeper.
Оn 77 minutes, following a cross by Oleksii Kashchuk, Kyiv’s captain Dubynchak scored an own goal, making it 1-2
Second half

Shakhtar fully dominated the opening stages of the second half. Stanyslav Hudz made it past a few opponents, still failing to beat the intercepting keeper. Right after that episode, Oleksandr Porodko found himself in an advantageous position, missing the near corner just by inches. The pressure of the Orange-and-Blacks made Dynamo operate nervously, which immediately affected the course of the meeting. So, on 77 minutes, following a cross by Oleksii Kashchuk, Kyiv’s captain Dubynchak scored an own goal, making it 1-2. A minute later, Buletsa got his second yellow card, leaving his team short-handed. The Pitmen rushed forward to save the match, losing their defensive focus instead and conceding the third goal by Kalyuzhnyi just five minutes from time. However, in the next attacking move, the charges of Serhii Popov earned a penalty, which was converted by Dmytro Topalov. The closing attempt to net another one failed, with the score remaining 2-3.

The Pitmen will play their next U19 league game away against Zorya on November 19.

Serhiy Popov, Shakhtar U19 head coach:

- Our performance was heavily influenced by the early goal scored by the opponents. The boys got confused and could not recover throughout the first half, giving away another goal. The tough talk at half-time was fruitful, with the team making every effort to change the course of the match. But, unfortunately, they failed to fulfil it: they netted one, then conceding another one again after a corner blunder. The main thing our players need to learn is that it’s necessary to stay focussed from the first to the last minute, and prove their level in every game. That’s the only way for them to expect the result and challenge for the title.
