Before the match

As Paulo Fonseca had promised in the pre-match press conference, he reshuffled Shakhtar squad. Goalkeeper Mykyta Shevchenko debuted for Shakhtar, Mykola Matviienko made his first European competition appearance. The lone striker role went to Andrii Boriachuk.

Andrii Boriachuk welloffered himself. On 31 minutes, the teammates brought him through on target only to see an opposing running defender prevent the striker from making a precision attempt
First half

The Pitmen opened the scoring pretty early. On 11 minutes, Bernard made a delivery into the penalty area to Dentinho, with Bardakci being first on the ball to touch it with his shoulder and score an own goal. The Orange-and-Blacks controlled the ball for long, using the whole attacking width. Taison and Bernard were particularly active, often changing their positions on the field. Andrii Boriachuk welloffered himself. On 31 minutes, the teammates brought him through on target only to see an opposing running defender prevent the striker from making a precision attempt. However, a goal was still scored shortly afterwards. On 36 minutes, Taison found himself alone on the edge of the box and fed Dentinho. Shakhtar’s number 9 sent a volley into the far corner – 2-0. Just before the break, Taison might give the score an even more lopsided look. Thanks to Bernard’s timely pass, he tried to bundle the ball past the opposing goalkeeper only to see a defender coming to the rescue.
Shortly after that, the Orange-and-Blacks scored again. Andrii Boriachuk brought Bernard through on goal, with the latter skilfully beating the goalkeeper – 4-0
Second half

In the second half of the match, Paulo Fonseca fielded another debutant – Viacheslav Tankovskyi. The 21-year-old midfielder replaced Viktor Kovalenko. After the break, the play pattern did not change: the Pitmen continued to operate actively in the opponents’ half of the field. As for the visitors, they began to appear more frequently near the goal kept by Mykyta Shevchenko, but their attacks were not threatening enough. On 64 minutes, Eduardo replaced Taison. It took the Croat just little time to get himself on the scoresheet. On 66 minutes, Darijo Srna played a set piece on the right-hand wing, with Eduardo heading it right home to make it 3-0. Shortly after that, the Orange-and-Blacks scored again. Andrii Boriachuk brought Bernard through on goal, with the latter skilfully beating the goalkeeper – 4-0. On 79 minutes, Paulo Fonseca made his last substitution, fielding Taras Stepanenko instead of Andrii Boriachuk. In the remaining time, the Donetsk team controlled the course of events and turned it into another major win. In the current European campaign, Shakhtar have kept a clean sheet, scoring 15 goals in 5 winning games.

The Pitmen are to play their next game on 27 November. In the 16th round of the Premier League, the Orange-and-Blacks are playing Dnipro away. It kicks off at 7:30 pm EET.
