Oleksandriya mentor reflects on the meeting with Shakhtar
- We completely failed the first half. The players did not fulfil the requirements mentioned at the game planning session. Unfortunately, we wrongly acted defensively on the whole. It’s very difficult to play any open football against such pacey players as Shakhtar’s. Even more so since we gave one away in the opening minutes. In the second half, we saw our team to be completely different: they were aiming to fight on the pitch until the end and give their all to equalise. Of course, our goal early in the second half gave the team confidence. Therefore, the match can be divided into two halves, with the first one being a complete failure and the second one being our asset.
- What did you tell the players at half-time? How did you manage to get the message across?
- We told them that it was necessary to take risks, play for the fans and not look at the score. We perfectly understood who we were playing. I am very grateful to the guys for the fact that they showed their character, demonstrating that we have the right standing.
