Before the match

The neighbors in standings were meeting. Shakhtar, being one point adrift of the leaders, were sitting in the second spot, with Olimpik going third. Before the encounter, the teams were separated by six points. In the previous round, the Pitmen defeated Zorya in Schaslyve (2-0), while the Olympians drew away against Vorskla (1-1).

After international duty, Valeriy Kryventsov lost due to injuries the defender Ihor Kiryukhantsev, who was replaced by Mykyta Bezuhlyi, as well as the striker Denys Arendaruk. However, the captain Oleksandr Pikhalyonok was back to the ranks. He was paired with Yuriy Hlushchuk in midfield. They replaced Mykola Matviyenko and Vyacheslav Tankovskyi respectively. Roman Yalovenko replaced Oleksandr Zubkov as the attacking spearhead.

First half

Early in the opening stages, Shakhtar players captured the territorial advantage, however, there was no danger occurring for quite a while. The carried out mainly positional attacks, stopping in front of the opponents’ tightened defence, which operated in a quite compact way. Nevertheless, on 25 minutes, put Yuriy Hlushchuk through to the shooting range, with the midfielder landing a precision shot into the far corner. It did not take much time for the Orange-and-Blacks to score twice against Olimpik. Firstly, Mykyta Adamenko successfully finished off an Ihnatenko shot, with Giorgi Arabidze showcasing individual brilliance on 34 minutes. Georgia international easily beat two defenders and bundled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box. At 3-0, the sides left for the halftime break.

Second half

The hosts managed to level it a bit in the second half of the meeting. The advantage of the Orange-and-Blacks was not that overwhelming any longer, though they continued to create chances. Thus, on 53 minutes, Mykyta Adamenko bore down on the opposing goal at tight angle, but failed to make a difference. Yuriy Hlushchuk was finishing his solo run with an attempt on goal, only to see the ball go just wide. On 74 minutes, the Pitmen produced a few consecutive shots on target, but the goalie played well. Towards the end of the game, Danylo Sahutkin had a chance, but his header went somewhat wide following a corner. The outcome is Shakhtar’s convincing win, with the result secured by them in the first half.

The team of Valeriy Kryventsova will have their next game on 22 October. The Pitmen will be visiting Zirka Kropivnytskyi.
The coaches were preparing us for a tough game. They warned us that Olimpik drop deep and run well on the counter. But we took the field with our thoughts focused on winning, so we claimed the win
Mykyta Adamenko, Shakhtar midfielder:

- The coaches were preparing us for a tough game. They warned us that Olimpik drop deep and run well on the counter. But we took the field with our thoughts focused on winning, so we claimed the win. The opponents didn’t have a single chance during the match, except for just few half-chances. I think we totally outplayed the opponents and won deservedly. Why we didn’t score in the second half? Because we got slack. There were chances, but still we failed to excel once again. In any case, the result is reflected on the scoreboard, everyone is happy.
Back in the first half, we managed to notch up three goals. We took to the pitch for the second half, continued to create chances and had to score two or three more goals. I, by the way, could have upset the goalkeeper once again, but the shot was unsuccessful
Yuriy Hlushchuk, Shakhtar midfielder:

- Back in the first half, we managed to notch up three goals. We took to the pitch for the second half, continued to create chances and had to score two or three more goals, but, unfortunately, we couldn’t change the figures on the scoreboard. At half-time, the coaches asked us to operate in the same vein: once the game continues, you have to score as many goals as possible. It’s a pity that we didn’t do so. I, by the way, could have upset the goalkeeper once again, but the shot was unsuccessful: the run was not bad, but finishing was poor... However, we were fully in control of the match against Olimpik and claimed a well-deserved victory.
