Before the match

For the first time after a month's break, the team captain Darijo Srna appeared. In central defence, Olexandr Kucher appeared instead of the injured Yaroslav Rakitskyy. And Taison was replaced on the left wing by his compatriot Bernard. For another Brazilian Marlos, the meeting with Olimpik was his 100th game with Shakhtar.

First half

Already in the 6th minute, the Pitmen could have opened the scoring. Bernard delivered a corner, with Ivan Ordets extending the ball, but the Olimpik keeper prevented Taras Stepanenko and Facundo Ferreyra from finishing off their move. Overall, the opening stages of the game passed at a fairly fast pace, with the sides trying to exchange attacking moves. In one of the episodes, the team was rescued by Andriy Pyatov, who neutralised an attempt by Vitaliy Hoshkoderya. The Orange-and-Blacks’ flanks operated in a customarily active way. MarlosIsmaily and Bernard made attempts on target, but Zauri Makharadze performed flawlessly. Midway through the half, Shakhtar fully shifted the game to the opposing half. The advantage of Paulo Fonseca’s side got overwhelming. On 36 minutes, Viktor Kovalenko bundled the ball into the back of the net following Darijo Srna’s pass, but the linesman ruled it offside. Immediately afterwards, the Olimpik keeper rescued his side again, stopping the ball that bounced off after a Marlos cross. Just before the break, Facundo Ferreyra could get himself on the scoresheet, but his header following a Viktor Kovalenko pass went wide.

Second half

The start of the second half of the meeting was bossed by the hosts. Initially, Volodymyr Tanchyk attempted to send it home from outside the penalty area, with ball flying over the goal. And on 55 minutes, Anton Postupalenko missed the target, being in a good position. Shortly afterwards, Shakhtar players seized the initiative. On 67 minutes, Paulo Fonseca made the first substitution: Bernard replaced Dentinho on the pitch. By that point, the Orange-and-Blacks were active near the opposing goal, making some dangerous long-range shots. Ivan Ordets attempted a pretty good header, but he succeeded later when flicking it home with his foot. On 73 minutes, he turned up in the right place after Zauri Makharadze stopped a shot by Olexandr Kucher. Just before scoring a goal, Yevhen Seleznov appeared on the pitchto replace Facundo Ferreyra. On 79 minutes, the score got even: Dmytro Nemchaninov sent a cross along the goalline, with the substitution player Ivan Matyazh scoring. Shortly afterwards, Eduardo appeared to replace Viktor Kovalenko. Shakhtar started playing with two forwards in front. In the end, Seleznov had a chance of netting one: Yevhen bore down on goal first, but hit the net from the outside, with the Olimpik keeper rescuing his team on 90 minutes from the striker’s header.

The Pitmen will have their next match in Lviv on October 20. In the 3rd round of the Europa League group stage, Shakhtar will take on Gent, Belgium.
