Shakhtar head coach Paulo Fonseca considerably changed the line-up as compared to the cup meeting against Oleksandriya. Only Bernard appeared again in the opening minutes. Yaroslav Rakitskyy could not take part in the encounter due to suspension.

Tight Chornomorets defence coped well with their duties up to 24 minutes. Early in the first half, the Pitmen played both through the flanks, for which Darijo Srna and Ismaily were responsible, and through midfield. They also disturbed the Odesa goalkeeper with long-range shots. However, they could not manage to penetrate the tough defence. Facundo Ferreyra opened the scoring then. The Argentine was challenging for the ball, when Oleksandr Azatskyi awkwardly passed the ball back to Dmytro Kanevtsev, so Facundo managed to take advantage of that error and scored – 1-0. Shortly afterwards, the Orange-and-Blacks doubled the lead. Ismaily crossed it  to the 11-metre mark, with Dentinho being quicker than his two opponents – 2-0. The ending of the first half saw Shakhtar attacking. Bernard had a spectacular chance: the Brazilian chested the ball and shot it while falling down only to see his attempt go wide.

Immediately after the half-time break, the Pitmen had two good scoring chances. Initially, Marlos created a chance for Dentinho – the number nine struck wide across the goal area. Then Bernard shattered the goalpost with a bent shot. He soon delivered an assist, when Dentinho was in front of the goal, beating the defender and being denied by the Chornomorets keeper. On 57 minutes, Paulo Fonseca fielded Taison instead of Bernard, who was one of the most active players in this game. Over time, the game calmed down. Although Shakhtar attacks were regular, they lacked threat. As for the opponents, over the entire match the Sailors have created only one chance. David Khocholava fired a one-touch shot just wide following set play. On 70 minutes, Andrii Boriachuk was fielded instead of Facundo Ferreyra, a bit later Maksym Malyshev was replaced by Taras Stepanenko. Ending of the meeting was held to the accompaniment of rain and the Orange-and-Blacks’ attacks. Andrii Boriachuk found himself spearheading attacks three times. In stoppage time, the 20-year-old striker found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but missed the target.

Shakhtar will play their next match in Belgium. On November 3, in the UEFA Europa League, the Pitmen will take on Gent. The meeting kicks off at 22:05.
