On September 15, 1976, Shakhtar played their first European club cup match
In the UEFA Cup Round of 64, the Pitmen met with Dynamo Berlin. The game took place in Donetsk, at the CS Shakhtar, and ended in a 3-0 win for the Pitmen. Vladimir Rogovskiy, Mikhail Sokolovskiy and Vitaliy Starukhin got their names on the scoresheet.
Donetsk had the following line-up: Degterev, Yaryomchenko, Gorbunov, Kondratov, Pianykh, Shevlyuk, Rogovskiy, Sokolovskiy, Starukhin, Dudinskiy (Vasin, 63), Safonov (Latysh, 74).
Currently, the team boast 208 games in the UEFA club competitions. 93 wins belong to Shakhtar, 74 to their opponents. 41 matches ended in a draw. The goal difference is 318-272 in favour of the Pitmen.
We want to note that in the 2016/17 season, Shakhtar take part in the UEFA Europa League (previously, the UEFA Cup) for the 18th time in their history. The top achievement of the Orange-and-Blacks in this competition is their winning the trophy in 2009.
