Кovalenko: They are strong team

Thursday, August 17, 2017

At the open training session, the Shakhtar midfielder answered questions from the media

- Viktor, how are Shakhtar preparing for the encounter with Olimpik?
- As always, we are rediscovering our best form to approach the match being fully ready.

- The Olympians haven’t yet conceded any goals this season. Do you already have a plan for opening the opposing defence?
- We know about that, but we want to claim this crucial win and net as many goals as we need.

- Last season, the meetings with Olimpik proved rather challenging. How much have your opponents changed?
- They are strong team with great left and right wings. We’ll try to win it, because the Olympians nicked numerous points off us back then.

- Olimpik’s president has promised his footballers some increased premium. Won’t you lack motivation?
- Nope. We want to extend our winning run.

- What d’you make of escalating the situation around the match between Mariupol and Dynamo, including before the national team games?
- We are preparing for our next meeting, without paying any attention to the rest of the news.
- You play in the attacking third, but you haven’t managed to score a goal or provide an assist so far this season. What needs to be corrected, given the loss of place in the starting line-up?
- I think I should work harder to benefit the team and help them win.
- Did Paulo Fonseca recommend you to change something in your performance before the league season start?
- The coach said that every Shakhtar player must work hard, making every effort and fighting for a place among the starting XI.

- Recent meetings with Oleksandriia and Stal were not easy. What's the matter? Are you still rediscovering your top form before the Champions League games or have your rivals got stronger?
- Each opponent acts as they can. Most of them play defensively, making the games really difficult. Of course, we haven’t yet reached our top form. We work and will try to prepare as best as possible for the Champions League.

- What are your forecasts for our teams’ Europa League games?
- I want to wish them to win – they are still Ukrainian teams playing in European competitions.

- Your favourite role is that of attacking midfielder. How much comfortable do you find operating closer to your box?
- It depends on the coach’s decision – I play wherever he puts me. But I’d still like to play more up field.

- You said that you got number 74. Don’t you want to pick another one?
- I haven’t thought about it yet. Maybe next season.
