In the 7th round, the youth league leader Shakhtar encountered Veres, who have a clean sheet in home matches before this game

The Miners’ starting XI saw significant changes: for the first time in the season, Volodymyr Hrachev and Viktor Kornienko operated on the flanks of the defense, as Danylo Ihnatenko returned to the midfiled, with Oleksandr Zubkov dropping behind a forward and Yurii Hluschuk operating on the offensive end.

First half

It took only five minutes for the Donetsk side to break the deadlock. Oleksandr Pikhalyonok played a kick-off circle to send Yurii Hluschuk on goal, who threw lifted over the goalkeeper to make it 0-1. Valeriy Kryventsov’s outfit pinned the visitors in its own area and continued to attack. Zubkov dragged his left-footed shot near the post. However, a similar shot from Giorgi Arabidze resulted in a goal in the 15th minute: the ball found the ‘keeper’s left corner – 0-2. The Georgian midfielder nearly followed up success by firing a shot from 30 meters, which came short of a couple of centimeters. However, Arabidze did not intend to stop and grabbed a brace. Giorgi earned a free-kick on the right flank and realized it in a fantastic way to watch his curler rounding the wall and then finding the net close to the near post – 0-3. Moments of danger came near the Rivne side’s goal with an astonishing frequency. So, Pikhalyonok made a breakthrough to go one-on-one and force Kogut into a save, with Zubkov getting onto the rebound to see the ball hitting the woodwork. In the dying minutes of the first half, the Veres shot-stopper twice thwarted the efforts from Zubkov, as Valerii Bondar could do the needful following a corner to see his shot a little bit wide.

Volodymyr Grachov, Shakhtar U21 defender: We held a strong first half. Inside the opening minutes, we were doing well, setting to claim early goals, and two early goals decided the game. But we did not stop, produced attacking performance, scored more and went into the break with a good advantage
Second half

The Donetsk side rushed after a break. Zubkov entered the penalty area down the right to flick his kick into the near corner, but Kogut parried the ball away from danger, before Yurii Hluschuk’s got into rebound to send his header into an empty net – 0-4. Then the Miners calmed down the game completely, but continued to control situation on the pitch, and moments of danger came only near the Veres goal. Arabidze and Pikhalyonok failed to convert promising free-kicks, and the combinations came short of a nice finishing pass. As in the first half, the right defender Hrachev operated well in supporting attacks, which linking rounded off with a threatening cross. On the opposite flank, Kornienko tried to keep pace. Midway through the second half, the Rivne outfit also pushed forward, but all their actions were read by Shakhtar’s defense, with Yevhen Hrytsenko being forced into several saves. Shakhtar sat it out without problems and continue to lead in the U21 league.

Yevhen Hrytsenko, Shakhtar U21 goalkeeper: The opponent did not surprise us at all. We were much stronger and deservedly won. The first half saw us dominating the game: we controlled the possession, led in the match and achieved the result. Although the second half was already a formality, we could have scored more and won with even a bigger score. But 4-0 is a good result. The crucial thing is to continue in similar vein
