FC Shakhtar became the triumphant of the Football stars of Ukraine 2017 ceremony
At the gala show, which took place at the capital city’s NSC Olympiyskyi on December 8, the Donetsk club received the most prestigious awards.

Shakhtar’s mentor won the award for the best coach of Ukraine. In 2017, Paulo Fonseca bagged all three Ukrainian silverwares with the team and reached the Champions League round of 16.

– I’m honoured to appear among 11 top footballers of the country. I, as well as the entire team, worked hard and did my best to be useful to the club and the national team. I’m grateful to my parents and all the fans for their support. Such representation of Shakhtar speaks volumes. This means that we’re on the right track: we win, bag titles and produce a decent performance in the Champions League. We’ll try to continue in the same vein next year.

Triumphant Marlos
And the man of the evening was Shakhtar midfielder Marlos. His strike against Dynamo in the Ukrainian Cup final was recognized as most beautiful in the past year, with the player being voted the best footballer of Ukraine 2017 and awarded with the Golden ball.

– An incredible evening! I‘m very happy to receive awards. I want to thank my family, club, coaches, teammates and fans. These prizes are our entire team’s due. We did an excellent job - absolutely everyone in the club. Every worker, every fan helped us win and claim silverwares, since the credit for these prizes must also go to them. A wonderful year! I love Shakhtar with all my heart, I love Ukraine with all my heart and I want to raise the level of our club and our country higher and higher.

The legendary player of the Donetsk club Serhii Popov got a special award for the devotion to football.
It should be noted that the Football stars of Ukraine awarding ceremony is held on the initiative of the Football Federation of Ukraine and the All-Ukrainian Association of Professional Footballers. They decide winners by voting among coaches, captains and players of 50 leading football clubs of the country.
