Before the match
At the training camp in Portugal, Paulo Fonseca’s men have held the fourth friendly game over the last five days. This time, the Pitmen took on Gwangju, the team representing the South Korean K-League Classic. Shakhtar’s head coach gave the opportunity to have more game practise for the footballers, which had spent not so much time in yesterday's Atlantic Cup match versus Aalborg, Denmark (3-0). Taras Stepanenko brought his teammates onto the pitch wearing the captain's armband.

20 minutes into the game, Vyacheslav Tankovskyi made a challenge near the penalty area to possess the ball and put Andrii Boriachuk into shooting position. The 20-year-old striker converted his chance to make it 1-0
First half
Shakhtar’s opponents built up the defensive play, making use of high pressure. Owing to individual skills, the Pitmen coped with Koreans’ pressure with comparative ease and brought the course of the match under total control. 20 minutes into the game, Vyacheslav Tankovskyi made a challenge near the penalty area to possess the ball and put Andrii Boriachuk into shooting position. The 20-year-old striker converted his chance to make it 1-0. A few minutes later, Boyarchuk could have scored again: as Azevedo left the striker one on one with the goalkeeper, Andrii, attempting to round the goalie, missed the moment to strike. In general, the Pitmen dominated the first half by launching frequent attacking moves and displaying reliable defensive performance.

Zubkov could double the lead in the 66th minute: after intercepting the ball and beating the defender, he landed a low net-buster to see the Gwangju goalkeeper produce a save and deny his effort
Second half
After the interval, the game pattern had not changed. The Koreans tried to counterattack, with the Pitmen actively operating through the wingers. On 52 minutes, Taison made way for Ismaily, with Marcio Azevedo playing the role of the left midfielder, which is traditional at this training camp. 10 minutes later, Viktor Kovalenko and Oleksandr Zubkov emerged on the field in place of Taras Stepanenko and Bernard. It was Zubkov who could double the lead in the 66th minute: after intercepting the ball and beating the defender, he landed a low net-buster to see the Gwangju goalkeeper produce a save and deny his effort. As well as in the previous friendlies, the 70th minute saw Paulo Fonseca introducing eight substitutes at once. Gustavo Blanco Leschuk had his clear-cut chance, however, his header after a high cross from Darijo Srna flew wide off the target. Marlos and Zubkov did well to forge threatening moments near the opponent’s goal, with Ismaily often supporting attacking moves and having a moment of danger in the closing stages of the match. Nevertheless, the numbers on the scoreboard remained unchanged, with the Donetsk side sealing a 1-0 victory through a goal by Andrii Boriachuk.
