A pleasant event took place before the Shakhtar vs Jablonec game

The players, coaches and staff of the Donetsk team warmly welcomed a former Pitman and the current captain of Jablonec Tomas Hubschman. The Czech played for Shakhtar from 2004 to 2014 and won 18 trophies with them. When the opponents took to the field, Darijo Srna handed Tomas a personalised jersey featuring 283 - the number of appearances he made for the Orange-and-Blacks. Earlier, the former midfielder gave an interview to shakhtar.com and sent his greetings to the Donetsk fans.

- Tomas, we are glad to see you again! Were you missing the Pitmen?
- Thank you, I am also very glad to see you! Of course, I missed them. I spent at Shakhtar 10 wonderful years, so I always enjoy recalling the team and all the fans.

- What are your most vivid memories of Shakhtar?
- The best memories are those about my friends at the club. I remember all the championships and our winning the UEFA Cup. I was happy to play for the Donetsk team. Each season, not just we but also all the fans had reasons for joy.

- How did your career develop after Shakhtar?
- I returned to the Czech Republic, joined the team with big ambitions and the desire to win trophies. Jablonec have never been the champions. The first year, when I came, we claimed the third spot. We wanted to claim a Champions League berth, but failed to do so. And after that, for the last year and a half, we haven’t been very successful.

- Did you expect to meet with the Pitmen on the football field again?
- To be honest, I didn’t. I am really delighted by the fact that Shakhtar take part in the tournament this year.

- What lads do you keep in touch with?
- The team still features many players I used to play with. We get in touch by phone with Sanya Kucher, Andriy Pyatov, Darijo Srna. There are other guys I keep in touch with, although we don’t meet up. When possible, I always watch Shakhtar games in European competitions. This season, Shakhtar have turned in a very decent display. I hope they will advance all way through and win the Europa League title.

- Do you remember the number of apps you made for Shakhtar?
- No, I don’t to be honest, I’ve never counted them and never thought about it. For me it was important that the team would achieve success every season. And the number of my apps is not really important.

- What would you like to say to the fans?
- Primarily, of course, I want to wish them that peace settles in asap in Donbas. So that the Pitmen could return to Donetsk and play at their arena, so that the fans would always believe in their team. Whatever happened, they rooted for us and supported Shakhtar very well all the time.
