Introducing the opponents: Jablonec

Tuesday, January 31, 2017

On January 31, Shakhtar will play their opening game at the Atlantic Cup tournament

The Pitmen’s opponents will be FK Jablonec. They represent a town of Jablonec nad Nisou in the north of the Czech Republic. Its population is 45 thousand people

The football club was founded in 1945. Thirty years later, they advanced to the top flight of Czechoslovakia before relegation just two years later. In 1996 and 1997, Jablonec were the third-place side in the Czech Republic league, claiming the history-making second spot in 2010, being just one point adrift of the award-winning Sparta Prague. The club also boasts some trophies: two Cups (1998, 2013) and the Czech Republic Super Cup (2013).

Currently, Jablonec are a middle side in the top flight. Last year, they finished seventh, occupying the tenth place in the table this season. The team are coached by a 56-year-old Zdenek Klucky.

A key feature of the upcoming match is the fact that the Pitmen are going to meet with Tomas Hubschman. The former midfielder of Shakhtar (283 apps, 10 goals) wears the captain’s armband at Jablonec, being the most experienced player in the team. In the 2016/17 Czech Republic league, Tomas Hubschman took part in 14 matches out of 15. Also, we want to highlight the former national team player Petr Jiracek.

The Shakhtar vs Jablonec encounter kicks off at 18:00 Kyiv time (EET). Live broadcast will be available on Futbol 1 TV channel, as well as the text commentary on
