On July 7, the Miners will play the closing game at the German training camp. The opponents of Paulo Fonseca’s men will be R. Charleroi SC

The club from the city of the same name in the Walloon region of Belgium was founded in 1904 and has not yet won a single major trophy, although they were close to that three times. In the 1968/69 season, Shakhtar’s opponents finished second in the league being five points adrift of Standard de Liege, and in the 1970s and 1990s they advanced to the Belgian Cup final.

Currently, Charleroi consistently perform in the Jupiler Pro League. The team of Felice Mazzu very successfully held the 2016/17 season, finishing it in the 6th spot, rising one spot higher in the knockout stage.

The Belgians play in the striped black-and-white outfit and are nicknamed the Zebras. Their home arena is Stade Du Pays de Charleroi, in 2000 it hosted the European Championship games.

A little more than ten years ago, Ukraine former player Serhii Serebrennikov used to play for Charleroi. It is also interesting that in the 2015/16 season, Luhansk-based Zorya made it past the Zebras in the third qualifying round of the Europa League, winnign both legs – 2-0 and 3-0.

The friendly Shakhtar vs Charleroi will start at 6 pm Kyiv time. Watch the live broadcast on Futbol 2 channel and follow the text commentary on shakhtar.com.
