First half

The Miners quickly seized the territorial advantage, where Oleksandr Zubkov might get himself on the scoresheet. Viacheslav Tankovskyi found the 20-year-old midfielder in the opposing penalty area with his passing move, but the defenders of Rödinghausen prevented the Ukrainian from striking home. In the 4th minute, David Khocholava had a good chance: the Georgian was producing a header following a corneronly to see the ball go just wide. The Orange-and-Blacks valued the ball and pretty well avoided the Germans’ upfield pressure. Nevertheless, it was the opponents who managed to open the scoring: Christian Møllering found himself one-on-one with the keeper and beat Oleh Kudryk. Shakhtar players took time to fine-tune their attacking performance and start creating chances. In the 27th minute, Taras Stepanenko still managed to find the back of the net only to witness the referee unrule it due to a foul. Immediately after that, Zubkov was successful on the right wing to showcase a precision pass to Taison only to see the Rödinghausen keeper coming to the team’s rescue. Shortly afterwards, oon after Tankovskyi beat the goalkeeper only for the defender to clear the ball off the goal line, backing his teammate. Well, the Miners’ next attacking move finally proved fruitful. In the 32nd minute, Taison hit the corner to make it 1-1. A minute before the goal, Ivan Petryak came on for Zubkov. The Donetsk team did not cease attacking until half-time, with the teams still leaving for the break on even terms.

Second half

Paulo Fonseca fielded a completely renewed line-up for the second half. Particularly active in the opening minutes was Marlos. It was he who in the 55th minute created a chance for Facundo Ferreyra, with the Argentine flicking the ball just home to make it 2-1. We should also mention the performance of Darijo Srna, who regularly posed threats on the right wing. After one of the captain’s high balls Dentinho might score, but the Brazilian hit a defender. In the 72nd minute, Tobias Steffen levelled the scores with his accurate shot following a rare offensive move. However, Darijo Srna again brought Shakhtar in front: his set piece worked perfectly well – 3-2.

Facundo Ferreyra also had a chance to excel, but the striker failed to take advantage of a stunning back-heeler by Marlos. This fact notwithstanding, in the 85th minute the ball hit the back of Rödinghausen’s goal net. Again, the assist was produced by Marlos, with Alan Patrick rounding off the move with his powerful effort – 4-2. In the end of the meeting, the Donetsk team conceded a counterattack, with Brochel reducing the deficit to make it the narrow 4-3.

The Miners will play their next match in Dülmen on July 1. The Orange-and-Blacks’ opponents will be Bochum, Germany playing in the Second Bundesliga. The kick-off time is 5:30 pm (EET).
