On July 1, the Orange-and-Blacks will play their second friendly in Germany. In Dulmen, Paulo Fonseca’s men will meet with VfL Bochum
The club represents the Ruhr area and was founded in 1848 as a gymnastics club. The football team was formed in the 20th century. In 1971, Bochum advanced to the First Bundesliga, where they played for 22 years, never climbing above the eighth line in the table.
In 1986, the striker Stefan Kuntz became the league’s top scorer with 22 goals. Currently, he is the head coach of Germany U21 team – the finalists of the currently held UEFA Euro U21 in Poland.
The best results of Bochum in the top German division are the fifth spots in the seasons 1996/97 (with their debut in European competitions) and 2003/04. These days, the club plays in the Second Bundesliga. Following the most recent season results, the subordinates of the Dutchman Gertjan Verbeek claimed the ninth spot.
Interestingly, the industrial Bochum is Donetsk’s twin city. In 2017, they have marked exactly 30 years since the signing of a corresponding partnership agreement. We also want to remind you that Shakhtar players Jan Lastuvka and Oleksii Belik used to play for Bochum in the 2007/08 season.
The friendly match will start at 5:30 pm Kyiv time (EET). Follow the broadcasts on shakhtar.com.
