Butko: Croatia is strong in every line

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier Croatia vs Ukraine, Shakhtar defender Bohdan Butko gave an interview to shakhtar.com

- Bohdan, how is going the preparation for the meeting with the Croats? What does Andriy Shevchenko highlight at the moment?
- Since March 18 we’ve been on a preparatory training camp in Austria. During the first days we we had two sessions a day. We paid attention to both fitness and pitch training, currently focusing on tactics. Besides, we have theory sessions twice a day.

- What do you make of the opponents? Participation of Croatia captain Vedran Corluka in the match is up in the air.
- I think his absence will not affect the Croats’ performance in any way. Yes, he is the team captain, but they have enough strong performers who can replace him. Croatia is strong in every line. Many of their players represent Europe’s leading clubs. That’s a very strong team, with no one finding it easy to play against them. If you look at the group statistics, the opponents have conceded just one goal in four games, scoring ten goals. I think you’d agree that the figures say a lot. We should be maximally watchful defensively, make the most of our chances and psych ourselves up for the game very well.

- Could you share your impression of the atmosphere in the national team?
- Everything’s fine! We’ve got no problem with that. We prepare thoroughly, with everyone understanding the importance of the upcoming match. We’ll try to display some great football and achieve a positive result.
