On March 28, the U17 elite round ended and revealed all the participants in the European Championship finals

Ukraine U17 team managed by Shakhtar former player and coach Sergei Popov, have qualified among the 16 teams to take part in the competition in May. The young Pitmen – midfielder Oleksii Kashchuk and striker Artem Kholod – played an important role in this success.

The Blue-and-Yellows started the elite round with defeating Sweden national team (2-1), scoring the decisive goal in the last minute of the match. Both representatives of Shakhtar took part in the game as substitutes. In the second match, Ukraine U17 national team lost to France (1-3). The only goal for our team was scored by Oleksii Kashchuk.

It was the midfielder of the Donetsk club who was destined to become the man of the final round, securing the Euro U17 berth. In the meeting against Austria, Ukraine conceded an opener in the 15th minute, with Kashchuk equalising before the break. Subsequently, he and his teammate Artem Kholod had opportunities to score more goals, but the outcome was decided in the injury time: in the third added minute, Oleksii Kashchuk’s precision shot from outside the box brought the Blue-and-yellows a win over Austria (2-1) and put Ukraine U17  team through to the 2017 UEFA U17 European Championship!

The final stages draw will take place this coming Monday, and the European Championship among the players born in 2000 will be held in Croatia from May 3 through May 19.
