On May 22, at the training base in Sviatoshyno, the Pitmen held a friendly match with the amateur team of Kyiv Lions Club

This is an international charitable organization involving foreigners who live and work in Ukraine. Volunteers and patrons of Kyiv Lions Club received the opportunity to play against the champions and winners of the Ukrainian Cup 2016/17.

- We are all happy that Shakhtar head coach and the first team players agreed to this charity match,’ - says Karen-Marie Kragelund, the president of Kyiv Lions Club. - To play against the champions of Ukraine is a unique opportunity. The idea of this match originated back in November 2016. I must say that there were so many interested people that we decided to arrange an auction, where the members of the club could redeem places. All proceeds will be channeled to charity. Kyiv Lions Club has almost 1.5 million members and about 50,000 representative offices around the world. We have a great lot of partners among international companies, and we are glad that we currently co-operate with FC Shakhtar. Our activities are aimed at children, disabled people, elderly people and medical institutions. To date, over USD 3 million has been donated for the needs in Ukraine.

Everything was like in this official match. The only difference was that the halves lasted for 15 minutes. The match referee was fitness coach Pedro Moreira, and Paulo Fonseca watched the events with interest and gave instructions to his men. Andriy Pyatov played in attack for Shakhtar, with Yaroslav Rakits’kyy acting as a goalkeeper. As is customary in such matches, the opponents scored an equal number of goals – 2-2. The charity meeting ended with a group photo as memento.
