Before the match

This season’s sixth fixture between the opponents was of no importance in terms of standings: the Donetsk side took on the Kyiv-based side as the champions. FC Again, Shakhtar head coach Paulo Fonseca gave the opportunity for top players to have a rest having fielded practically the same line-up for the clash versus Dynamo as in the meeting with Olimpik. As well as in the previous round, Sergii Kryvtsov took his team-mates onto the pitch wearing a captain's armband.
In the 23th minute, Alan Patrick fired a well-placed shot home from the distance: after the goalkeeper initiated an attacking move, Facundo Ferreyra kept the ball for the partner, and the Brazilian shooted it into the far bottom corner
First half

Teams started the game rather actively and exchanged moments of danger as early as in the opening stages. Andrii Yarmolenko and Dentinho emerged on the offensive end, with both of players failing to finish their partners’ efforts from the shooting position. In general, the game pattern did not differ from the one that Shakhtar and Dynamo demonstrated in their previous meetings: the Donetsk team enjoyed a longer spell of possession, while the Kyivites gave emphasis to the defensive performance and fast counterattacks. In the 20th minute, Viacheslav Tankovskyi and Viktor Kovalenko lost the ball near their own penalty area, before Denys Garmash opened the scoring. Three minutes later, Alan Patrick fired a well-placed shot home from the distance: after the goalkeeper initiated an attacking move, Facundo Ferreyra kept the ball for the partner, and the Brazilian shooted it into the far bottom corner. Ferreyra could convert Shakhtar’s initiative into a goal, as the Argentine unleashed his kick from a favourable position, but it was Domagoj Vida who saved his teammates by kicking the ball for a corner. Just before the whistle for the break, a goal-scoring chance came Viktor Kovalenko’s way, however, his markers prevented him from landing a well-placed shot.
Dentinho went one on one with Dynamo goalie, beat him and sent the ball into the empty net – 2-2
Second half

Shakhtar players increased further the ball possession percentage. All the more surprising turned out a penalty kick, wich was awarded to Mykyta Shevchenko‘s goal. The referee registered a foul by Viacheslav Tankovskyi, and Andrii Yarmolenko realized a spot-kick in the 52nd minute to make it 1-2. However, the Orange-and-Blacks  quickly drew level  again. Again, Alan Patrick demonstrated his individual skill to put the entire Kyiv side's defensive line out of the game. Dentinho went one on one with Dynamo goalie, beat him and sent the ball into the empty net – 2-2. On 69 minutes, Paulo Fonseca made the first substitution by introducing Marlos in place of Oleksandr Zubkov. It was not long until the visitors did the needful after an effective attacking move: Andrii Yarmolenko flicked right into the corner after a pass from Mykola Morozyuk. Taison emerged on the pitch to replace Viktor Kovalenko. In the 77th minute, Facundo Ferreyra missed a nice effort: Marlos set up his teammate into a shooting position only to see Maksym Koval deny the danger. The Orange-and-Blacks increased the pressure near the Kyiv side goal. In the dying minutes, Alan Patrick made way for Bernard. Paulo Fonseca’s men made the opponents drop back to the their own half of the pitch. Viacheslav Tankovskyi could register a leveller, however, the keeper cleared his pile-driver. After that, Bernard tried to deliver an accurate kick before hitting into Mykola Morozyuk’s hand, but the referee waved away a claim for a penalty.

Shakhtar are to hold their closing match of the season May 31. In the league final round, Shakhtar are going to lock horns with Oleksandriia home. The match kicks off at 19:00.
