Shakhtar players took part in the matches of the Georgia national team and the Georgia U21 team
The country’s first team hosted Wales in the World Cup 2018 qualifier in Tbilisi. After an evenly matched first half, the rivals went into the break goalless. In the second half, the hosts enjoyed more possession, however, they conceded a goal in the 49th minute: the English forward from Derby County Tom Lawrence registered a well-placed shot from outside the penalty area.
Khocholava’s appearance
Towards the end of the clash, the attacking moves from the Georgians began to look like collision. On 89 minutes, Valeriane Gvilia made way for Shakhtar’s defender David Khocholava, but the Wales defence withstood the pressure in the injury time to earn important three points.

Ruslan Malinovskyi’s teammate Marcus Ingvartsen turned out to be the Man of the match. Genk’s striker laid foundation for the hosts’ victory and registered a brace after the break. After the hour mark, the Danes increased their lead to the thumping score of 4-0. The substitute Beka Mikeltadze secured a brace in three minutes as late as in the closing, but within this interval between these goals, the Georgians contrived to concede the fifth.
