Today, Shakhtar U19 kick off their UEFA Youth League campaign by taking on Napoli

The Miners will participate in the tournament for the fourth time. The most successful for the club was the 2014/15 season when the team coached by Valeriy Kryventsov reached the UEFA Youth League final.
 
Leaders with European experience
 
This year, Shakhtar U19 includes the players born in 1998-2000. Volodymyr Yakimets, Maksym Chekh and Dmytro Topalov have experience in the competition. The latter has scored goals in the Youth League.
Dmytro Topalov, midfielder: “In 2015 I already played and scored goals vs Malmo and PSG. The impressions have remained for life! I really want to experience those emotions again, although we’ll try to perform even better”
Coaching debut
 
The head coach of Shakhtar U19 Serhii Shyschenko is participating in the UEFA Youth League for the first time. In the past, he made 21 appearances in European competitions as a player, considering international experience to be vitally important for the development of young players.

Serhii Shyschenko, head coach: “The UEFA Youth League is a dream not only for every young player, but also for the coach. We are glad to have the possibility to test ourselves at this level. Europe’s top football schools compete for the title, and we will try to deliver some decent performance. We have been preparing for this tournament for a long time and we really want to advance as far as possible”
