The Shakhtar U21 coach and footballers reflect on the encounter in Mariupol

Valeriy Kryventsov, head coach:

- First of all, I want to note that the opponents approached the meeting with great personnel difficulties, but the young players of Mariupol looked good throughout the match and gave us a good fight. I'm glad that we won and again I can praise the guys for their will to win, dedication and fighting spirit, but once again I was not satisfied with the quality of football. We must understand that with the departure of the three leading midfielders - Pikhalyonok, Ihnatenko and Hluschuk - we found ourselves in a very sensitive state: the performers who replaced them in their positions should operate much better. I want to congratulate Danylo Sahutkin on scoring three goals. He is very responsible in his attitude to training, and this has become a kind of reward for his diligence. It's no secret that Danylo plays well using his head, and in each of the scoring situations, he correctly calculated the ball distance after the set play deliveries by Kaschuk and Topalov. After the game, I praised him and wished that his first hat-trick would return time and again.
The inexpressible sensations, since this is my debut hat-trick! I couldn’t even imagine anything like that. Before the match, the coach said that we hadn’t scored set-piece goals for a long while and that we should try to net as many goals as possible
Danylo Sahutkin, defender:

- The inexpressible sensations, since this is my debut hat-trick! I couldn’t even imagine anything like that. Before the match, the coach said that we hadn’t scored set-piece goals for a long while and that we should try to net as many goals as possible. And it so it happened: I went to deliver the free kick - scored the first one, then I adjusted to the ball - scored the second one. In the dying minute, Valeriy Serhiyocych shouted to me that if I got tired, I could not run to the corner, but I decided to link up and eventually scored a hat-trick. The guys are just shocked! They say: remember everything you did the day before, what you had for breakfast, and repeat that before each match. But seriously, this is the result of our training routine. We pay a lot of attention to set-play deliveries, gradually accumulating the experience and fulfilling it in the games. As for the original celebration of the goals, we agreed with the guys to copy some interesting elements from computer games. This time, we ‘poured salt’, the next time we’ll come up with something else. Most importantly, there should be goals and victories.
We had some chances, but failed to score from open play, while the set pieces turned out perfectly, leading to three goals
Yukhym Konoplia, defender:

- The meeting was not easy. We wanted to operate more through the deliveries up front, but the dry field and strong wind in the first half prevented us from doing so, so we had to use the flanks: crosses and deliveries into the penalty area. We had some chances, but failed to score from open play, while the set pieces turned out perfectly, leading to three goals. Well, and Danya Sahutkin was just in the zone! The young footballers of Mariupol came out with a great desire to prove themselves: they fought in every episode, giving their all on the field. Henadii Hryhorovych Orbu set up the guys really well, and they gave us a fight. At the same time, we understand that we need to improve our performance in order to become the champions. We should step it up in the remaining matches.
