In the U19 league round 18, Shakhtar played Vorskla away

The Miners are sitting in the second spot in the league table with 40 points. In the previous round, the team of Serhii Shyschenko demolished Skala (7-0) at home. In comparison with that match, the Orange-and-Blacks’ coach has made two changes to the starting line-up: the defenders Yurii Mate and Dmytro Pavlish returned to the starting XI. Vorskla are sitting in the 11th spot with 17 points. The encounter between the rivals in the first stage ended in a confident win for the Donetsk team (4-0).

Ball under control and a goal before the break

The first half action was dictated by the players of Shakhtar, who confidently controlled the ball and space, orchestrating long moves and constantly looking for an opportunity to threaten the opposing goal. Kulakov and Kryskiv made good strikes, but on the whole, the hosts' defence managed to restrain the onslaught, with the goalkeeper coming to his side’s rescue after the Orange-and-Blacks’ strikes. The Poltava team did not hurry to launch the all-out attacks, relying on counterplay, still failing to cause any major issues to the visiting defenders and Kucherenko. Meanwhile, a minute away from the half-time break, the Miners carried out an excellent attack and opened the scoring: Maksym Andruschenko found himself at the right-hand side of the penalty area and hit the roof of the net to make it 1-0.

Failed to withstand it with ten men

Serhii Shyschenko’s boys started the second half in the same confident manner and even could have increased the lead, however, Riznyk came to his side’s rescue after a strike by Maksym Chekh. An episode in the 69th minute changed everything: Shakhtar’s right-back Kyrylo Melichenko broke the rules some 20 metres away from goal, earned his second yellow card and left his team short-handed, with the Vorskla half-back Kozhevnikov equalizing through a direct free-kick. It took the Orange-and-Blacks some time to change the formation, but even with ten men they thought about winning only and did not leave attempts to score the second goal. However, it turned out just on the contrary: a minute before the final whistle, Marmo took advantage of his teammate's assist to score from a one-on-one situation.

1-2 - Shakhtar lost to Vorskla, with them getting six points adrift of the top-spot side.

On April 14, the Miners will entertain Stal.
