The Shakhtar midfielder Fred told us about the training camp workloads and the chance of making it past Roma
- Fred, what do you make of the first training days?
- Everything is very good! We must get some huge workload now to prepare for the championship and the Champions League quicker. This is necessary after a long pause, and this intensity does help us.
- Do you have enough time to rest?
- Yes, we’ve got enough time to recover. I think it's important to exercise as much as possible. In Ukraine, the teams have now stopped for a winter break, but in Europe everyone continues playing in their leagues, they don’t have any break. So we need to catch up and be in shape just like them.
- The goalkeeper Alisson plays for Roma, you know him through Brazil national team. Have you talked to him about the upcoming Champions League encounter?
- Roma is a very good club, and we will have to try our best to win. The Romans are always strong. When we have the smallest opportunity, we review their games. Speaking about the Brazilians, I know a few players in the team. I haven’t talked to Alisson yet, but I had a word with Juan Jesus. We came to the conclusion that the meetings will be interesting and tough, and that we’d like to meet on the field.
- The Miners are experienced in notching up goals against the Brazilian goalkeepers, for example, you stood out in the clash with Manchester City. Would you like to extend it?
- Of course! We are friends with Alisson and the rest of players, but we forget about our friendship during the game, with everyone thinking about just football and trying to win, wishing to advance in the Champions League as far as possible.
- What’s Shakhtar’s chance of making it past Roma?
- I think it’s big enough. We managed to beat Manchester City, so why not deal with Roma? We will do our best for that: to train a lot, to prepare and try to scrutinize the opponents as much as possible.
