Shakhtar defender Bohdan Butko summed up the team's training in Turkey
- We did a great job. Despite the fact that the training camp lasted just ten days, I think the team worked very well. All the sessions were intensive and interesting: fitness, aerobic workload, ball exercises. We were lucky weather-wise, the conditions for training and recovery were just perfect. In short, we can only be happy with the training camp in Belek.
- In Turkey, you paid special attention to fitness training. Each day started with attending the gym ...
- Right, we had more fitness sessions than ever before. We trust the coaching staff, who know perfectly well at what moment and what kind of loads they should give the players. We will only get stronger and tougher.
- In Belek, Shakhtar held two test games. What can you say about the opponents’ level?
- Very decent teams. Ludogorets looked more prepared in the encounter with us. Most likely, the reason is that they started training earlier than we did. Dinamo Zagreb are a good team, the Croats displayed a good performance. I think Shakhtar just weren’t lucky. But that’s a training camp, here we hold games under serious workload pressure. Of course, we are dissatisfied with the results. It’s always important to win, even the friendly meetings. This adds confidence.
- What do you make of your fitness?
- I try to give my all in every session. The form is not yet perfect, but there’s still another training camp ahead, in which we should continue working with full dedication. In Dubai, we are facing the tournament we want to win, and to deliver good football either. Hopefully, by the start of the league season and the Champions League games, the whole team will rediscover their optimum form.
- Did you follow Roma while on training camp?
- Yes, the guys and I watched Roma’s recent game against Milan-based Inter. The Romans have their own tactic. Our objective is to try to scrutinise their playing style. We are starting to analyse our opponents’ performance in more detail just shortly.
