On June 13, the second children's Talent Day competition was held at the Arena Lviv, involving 96 youngsters from different places of Ukraine

Grassroots football development

Shakhtar Talent Day is an opportunity for young players to attract attention of the coaches and scouts of Shakhtar Academy. The tournament organizer is Shakhtar Social implementing the Come on, Let’s Play! social campaign and also being engaged in the development of grassroots football in the country. The event partner is the Master of the Ball football school.

The first Talent Day took place in early June in Kharkiv, and now it is the turn of the Lviv kids to show their talent. However, the event present was not confined to just one place – the boys born in 2005 and 2006 from the Odesa, Zakarpattia, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblasts, as well as from Chernivtsi, Ternopil and Boryspil came there to practise on the field.

Chance to enter the Academy

The tournament participants were divided into six groups of 16 boys and they had a number of short matches on six grounds. For three hours the guys displayed their football skills at one of the best stadiums in Ukraine – the Arena Lviv. At each location, the guys scored points that revealed the winners in the end. They are Sviatoslav Tsymbala, Maksym Fik, Maksym Luzhnyi, Nazar Tarnovskyi, Oleh Irza. All of them were awarded prizes and gifts from the club.

Besides, the coaching scouts of the Shakhtar Academy attended the competitions, closely watching the participants’ performance; they invited the most talented ones for trials.

Ivan Kotsyuba, FC Shakhtar Academy coaching scout:

- We’ve seen many great, talented children today. I want to say that the young players’ level of expertise even here, at the selection event, is high. We mainly followed their thinking and decision-making on the pitch. Of course, we also assessed their technique, pace and movement. We chalked up twelve players to invite them for trials at the Academy. Such a large-scale project is good not only because it allows us to find some strong guys with great potential, but also because it promotes the grassroots football. This is something that our country really needs.

Shakhtar Talent Day: the next place is Mariupol

The Talent Day in Lviv turned out spectacular and memorable. After summing up the results, they presented all the participants with gifts and held a joint photo shoot. At the same time, the tournament continues to expand its presence, because Shakhtar Social gives children the opportunity to make their dream come true and enter the Shakhtar Academy. In the near future, the Talent Day will be held in Mariupol.
