On June 1, the OSC Metalist hosted the first Talent Day 2018
96 children took part in the large-scale competition in Kharkiv.
Grassroots football
The Shakhtar Social foundation implements the Come on, Let’s Play! social project in eight cities and towns of Ukraine. The development of grassroots football in the country is the basis of professional football and enables every kid to reveal their talent. On June 1, the OSC Metalist played host to the first Talent Day: the boys born in 2006 tried themselves on the field in the presence of the coaching scouts of the Shakhtar Academy.
Academy contenders
- The event involved many children. In my opinion, this is their first step to the Academy of our club. Primarily, I paid attention to the ball handling technique and player thinking. Six or seven guys already highlighted themselves today. We made a record of their names, we will talk to their parents, and when the right time comes, we will invite them to the Academy. All of them have the eyes glowing with passion, they have a great desire to play football and a dream of playing at Shakhtar! An excellent undertaking: we need to continue it and visit as many cities and towns in the country as possible.
Shakhtar Talent Day presence
The first Talent Day in history ended on a positive note: with summing it up, presenting gifts and the group photo shoot. The Shakhtar Social gives children the opportunity to fulfill their dream and make it to the Shakhtar Academy. In the near future, the Talent Day will be held in Lviv and Mariupol.
Shakhtar Social is a non-profit foundation founded by FC Shakhtar to implement social projects and to develop children's grassroots football in Ukraine. Its objectives include promoting healthy lifestyles, forming the right values and creating equal opportunities for everyone who likes football and plays the game.

The event partner is the Master of the Ball football school. The participants formed six groups of 16 people and held a series of short games on six grounds. The opportunity to qualify for a place at the Academy of the 11-time Ukrainian Champions was the major motivation of the guys. All in all, the competition lasted about three hours. The children from Kharkiv, Mykolayiv, Dnipro, Kherson, Luhansk, and Donetsk Oblast participated in the trial.
