The Portuguese specialist has joined the coaching staff of Shakhtar
Nuno Romano will be responsible for the fitness training at Shakhtar. For three previous seasons, the coach worked at Braga.
In his interview to shakhtar.com, the coach told us about his acquaintance with the team and his expectations.
- I’m delighted to have joined Shakhtar, and my first impressions are the most positive. This is a competent club, well known in the international arena, so it’s a great honour for me to work here. The team brings together the professionals, everything is organized to the top standards, with wonderful conditions having been created here.
- You’ve worked at Braga for three years, therefore you must know Paulo Fonseca well and be acquainted with him?
- Yes, we worked together three years ago: it was an excellent season both in terms of titles and individual growth for each of us. I'm happy to be here, at Shakhtar, and to become a part of this coaching team again. We were not only colleagues, but also friends, so I closely followed the successes of Paulo Fonseca’s staff at Shakhtar and rejoiced at their victories. I really like the kind of football showcased by the Miners. I, we could say, fell in love with this kind of playing model.
- What are your duties?
- Just everything related to monitoring the players’ physical development. We will do fitness and better understand their condition, being able to adjust the workload for each player individually. And, of course, I will be in charge of strength training and some analytical things, when we need to figure out what we want to see the guys do on the field and what fitness level they need to achieve for that.
- What would you like to achieve at Shakhtar?
- I think the goals have been well expressed: at least we must retain the things that have been done to date, and try to make more progress. The past season was very successful: the team won everything in Ukraine and held an excellent Champions League campaign, so we need to secure those trophies. We hope and believe that we can do even more and better.
