In Kharkiv on October 16, the Ukraine national team met with the Czech Republic

In the UEFA Nations League game, the Yellow-and-Blues’ coach Andriy Shevchenko fielded five Shakhtar players in the starting line-up. Andriy Pyatov took his place between the sticks, with Yaroslav Rakits’kyy and Mykola Matviienko playing defensively, and with Taras Stepanenko and Marlos operating in midfield.

Malynovskyi scored again

In the opening 15 minutes, the hosts had a couple of good chances: Yaremchuk produced two dangerous headers, only to see the ball go wide. The Czechs responded immediately and Pyatov rescued the team after the attempts by Pavelka and Jankto. In general, the Ukrainians looked better. They owned the initiative, continuing to send shots on target, which developed into a goal of Malynovskyi (Ruslan sent a precision shot right into the corner from outside the penalty area).

Defensive safety

During the break, the sides’ mentors made no substitutions. The national team of Ukraine still led the game in line with their own scenario. In the 52nd minute, Rakits’kyy found Matviienko with his delivery, with Mykola sending a threatening cross into the box, but the defender denied his attempt. In the return attack, Pyatov pulled the ball from under the crossbar after Pavelka’s 20-metre-range attempt. Gradually, the Czechs seized control and increasingly more frequently approached the hosts' penalty area, but the defensive third played safely. The sub player Zmrhal was very active: he was trying to hit the near corner (Pyatov saved the attempt) and was looking for the teammate (Rakits’kyy knocked the ball off through a sliding tackle). In turn, the Yellow-and-Blues could have also netted another one, but Pavlenka putting his foot in the path of a Tsyhankov shot.
