The Chornomorets manager Angel Chervenkov commented on the meeting with Shakhtar
- In the first half, the team looked more reliable: they operated with good concentration, the zones and did not give the opponents many opportunities. The Miners perfectly play and control the ball, but before the break, they created very few chances. Unfortunately, in the second half, we lost concentration, began to make some serious tactical errors, did not fulfil personal tasks. We conceded the vital first goal, then ridiculously scored an own goal. That’s a tough blow, but everyone has their technical flaws – that’s not a problem. It was all over for us after the second goal. We saw on the field the young and promising Shtohrin, plus Norenkov made his debut in the game against Shakhtar. We know that the team haven't played enough together, they need time, experience and skill. In the future, we will try not to make such serious tactical mistakes.
- Today, Matviienko and Kryvtsov, who rarely appear, played defensively for Shakhtar. Did you ask your players to take more shots on target and try to pass the centre-back?
- There was such a game plan because the field here is good and fast. I instructed them to use any opportunity to shoot on target. We expected some changes, but we’ve got certain personnel issues. Our main centre-forward does not play due to injury. I let the other guys prove themselves. We realised that it would be difficult because keeping the ball in the opposing half is our big problem, we need to work on that.
- You have no internationals in your squad. Why is that?
- We are considering options. Probably, we’ll have some internationals. The most important thing I want is to see the responsible people, to see the team fighting, trying their best and fulfilling our demands. I want to create the team who are not afraid of anything, playing some good, attractive football both away and at home. For that, we need some quality performers. We started late, but now this process is underway.
