Shakhtar midfielder Marlos spoke about preparing for the game vs Mariupol
- Marlos, what players would you highlight at Mariupol?
- All are good, most of them form part of Shakhtar. That’s just the guys I basically know, the ones who belong to our club. Mariupol are a team with good qualities and interesting attributes. We must work hard to win.
- How is the preparation going? What new things has the coach introduced?
- He’s an important coach for us. Some of his approaches are similar to those of Paulo Fonseca. He loves keeping the ball, and I believe that's the main thing because our players love dominating possession and attacking football. Luis Castro is a mentor who has worked well on formations. The fact that this kind of person works with us is another positive thing the club administration has achieved. Hopefully, we will be very successful with this manager.
- Castro deploys you either on the right wing or just behind the striker. Where do you feel more confident?
- To be honest, with my experience I no longer feel the difference between roles. When you are on the pitch, this is not the most important thing. It’s really important to understand football, the style of play, and your opponents. You may have any role, but it’s important to know what and when you do. At Shakhtar, I play both as a winger and an attacking midfielder, while in the national team I can also play at different positions.
- The games against Lithuania and Nigeria are coming soon. Will it be interesting?
- I am going through a difficult moment right now – I was operated on not so long ago. I’m working hard on preparation for both qualifying matches and friendly games. Hopefully, I’ll also manage to prove myself in the national team.
- This weekend will see Miner's Day and the 150th foundation anniversary of Donetsk. How are the team going to congratulate the fans?
- We’ll try to display some beautiful, quality football. I hope that the fans will fill the stadium. For us, those are unrepeatable emotions when you are taking to the pitch and see children and their parents watching the match and cheering for you. We will play for Donetsk and with special feelings to Kharkiv. In case of the capacity ground, it will help us to display even more spectacular football.
