On February 14, Shakhtar and Eintracht held the Europa League round of 32 first leg in Kharkiv

We bring you a few interesting statistical facts about the encounter.

Prolific draw

For Paulo Fonseca, this was a debut draw with Shakhtar in the Europa League (11 games, nine wins, one draw, one defeat, goal difference 28–10). It is noteworthy that the September game vs Hoffenheim in Kharkiv developed similarly. And in February 2014, Fonseca’s Porto finished with the same score their Europa League round of 32 first leg vs Eintracht at home. In Frankfurt, the Dragons came from behind on two occasions and advanced further thanks to the even more prolific draw of 3-3.

Taison’s 10 euro goals

Taison scored for the Orange-and-Blacks 10 goals in European competitions, including three goals against German clubs.

Moraes is MVP

Shakhtar striker Junior Moraes left the pitch without shooting on target vs Eintracht, but still did a lot of valuable work. First, he earned a spot kick and provided an assist to Taison. Secondly, he had (27) and won (13) more duels than the rest of players. Thirdly, the Brazilian fed his teammates in the penalty area on three occasions. As a result, he was recognised the most valuable player.

Marlos’ finishing goal

Marlos converted 11 spot kicks with the Miners, including three shots in European competitions (vs Istanbul Basaksehir, Gent, Eintracht). The right winger has become the best for the number of dribbles (five successful out of eight).

Equality

According to Wyscout, the opponents had almost equal possession statistics: 48% vs 52%. In the opening part of the game before the sending-off, Shakhtar’s possession was 74%. Having been left with ten men, the Miners switched to the 4–4–1 formation after Kovalenko dropped into the holding area.

Eintracht shot at goal thrice as much (21/6), with the teams ending up with the equal number of shots on target (4-4), and Shakhtar, unlike the Eagles, in all four cases hit the target from outside the penalty area.

Manor Solomon made his debut for Shakhtar, spending a little more than 20 minutes on the field
Welcome back, Maksym!

For Malyshev, this was the first competitive appearance this season. The previous time, the defensive midfielder, who had been absent for a long while due to injury, took to the pitch on April 27, 2018 in the Premier League vs Mariupol.

Centre-back

Kryvtsov made his 130th app for Shakhtar, Khocholava made the 40th appearance. David had 10 rebounds and nine clearances with the minimum number of lost balls, plus both of his sliding tackles were successful. Sergii made nine interceptions and sent the ball into the last third of the pitch more frequently than the others. Kryvtsov will miss the return game in Frankfurt due to suspension.
