FC Shakhtar signed a contract with the Brazilian midfielder Marcos Antonio
Marcos Antonio is a native of the state of Bahia and a graduate of the Athletico Paranaense academy. In the summer of 2018, he joined Estoril in the Second League of Portugal. He spent some time with the U20 team, then debuting for the senior team in the 1-0 cup win vs FC Vasco da Gama on September 30. On October 8, he made his top-flight debut in the starting line-up vs Academica (7-2) and provided an assist. Aggregately, he made 6 apps for Estoril Praia.
In 2017, Marcos Antonio won the South American U17 Championship with Brazil U17, scoring one goal. In the summer of the same year, the Selecao became bronze medalists of the FIFA U17 World Cup in India (7 apps, 1 goal). In the winter of 2019, together with Shakhtar winger Marquinhos Cipriano, he played for Brazil U20 in the South American U20 Championship in Chile and was the only Brazilian in the competition’s dream team according to CONMEBOL.
The 18-year-old Marcos Antonio operates in central midfield. He is a dynamic footballer skillfully using open spaces. He provides transitions from defence to attack, quickly evaluates options and delivers the ball to the teammates at the required distance. He also appeared as a right-back on a few occasions.
